  Notes	He emigrated to Brisbane, Australia on 20th June 1883 from Plymouth, on the Duke of Buckingham ship. He travelled with his friend, Fred. They were going to set up a business out there, then their families were going to join them. Tom's two sister in laws joined them about 3 weeks after they had landed. They were Elizabeth Nixon (his wife's sister), and Annie White (his brother's wife's sister). Queensland Postal Directory for 1883-1884 Mrs Margaret Ebenstone, boarding house keeper, Auckland Villa which was in Tank Street from George Street to North Quay. Queensland Postal Directory for 1885-1886 Thomas Smith, bootmaker, as a boarder in the above establishment. The "Duke of Buckingham" Ship's Register on film. Tom was a steerage passenger and it said that he was 29 and single - the passengers were entered alphabetical within the place of disembarkation and then within the type i.e. steerage, assisted, free, remittance,indented. No.4399 Smith Tom 9 Sept 1885 - on film Z1060. Tom made no land claim in Brisbane.
