    • In the name of God amen the tenth day of December in the third yeare of the reigne of our sovereigne Lord James the second by the grace of God King of England Scotland France and Ireland defender of the faith anno domini 1687 I Robert Halls of Stowlangtoft in the county of Suffolk yeoman being of perfect mynde and memory (God be therefore praised) do make and ordayne this my last will and testament in manner following first and above all things I commend my soule into the hands of almighty God and my body I commit to Christian burial and as concerning my worldly estate wherewith God hath blessed me I dispose thereof as followeth Imprimis my will and meaning is that George Peacock of Stowlangtoft aforesaid yeoman and Samuel Halls my brother of the same town blacksmith shall receive and take in sixty pounds of my debts or make sale of so much of my goods chattels and personall estate as shall and will amount to sixty pounds of lawfull money within some short tyme after my decease which said sume of sixty pounds I will and devise that they the said George Peacock and Samuel Halls or the survivor of them shall either put out to interest at the best rate they can the said sixty pounds or else lay out the same in purchasing of lands or tenements (which Elizabeth Halls my wife shall think most to be convenient and beneficial) and my will and meaning is that she the said Elizabeth my wife shall yearly and every year receive and take the interest of the said sixty pounds or the rent of the said lands or tenements which are purchased with the same during her naturall life And after her decease I give and devise the said sixty pounds or the lands or tenements so purchased with the same to be equally divided betweene Elizabeth Halls Theoda the wife of Robert Steggold Anne Halls and Mary Halls my foure daughters my wife mayntayning the house or houses in tenantable reparations if any be bought with the same Item I give devise and bequeath unto the said Elizabeth my wife as much of my household stuffe and implements of household as shall amount to twelve pounds of lawfull money (to be made choice of by my wife) out of the rest of my household stuffe and implements of household (not bequeathed by this my will) to be valued and appraised by two honest and discriet men the one chosen by my wife and the other by Robert Halls my sonne Item I give more unto my said wife All my lynnen and napry at the tyme of my decease and five combs of wheat three combs of rye four combs of malt half a weigh of cheese half a firkin of butter and one hogg worth twenty shillings Item I gave and bequeath unto Elizabeth Halls my daughter the sume of thirty pounds of lawfull English money to be paid to her her executors or assignes within twelve months next after my decease Item I give unto the said Elizabeth my daughter my feather bed in the hall chamber with all the furniture thereunto belonging Item I give and bequeath unto Robert Steggold Of Heggsset in the county of Suffolk Baker husband of Theoda my daughter the sume of twenty pounds of like money to be paid unto him his executors or assignes within twelve months next after my decease Item I give more to the said Robert Steggold my son in law fforty shillings of like money which is lieu of a bed to be paid to him his executors or assignes within six months next after my decease Item I give and bequeath unto Anne Halls my daughter thirty pounds of like money to be paid to her her executors or assignes within eighteen months next after my decease Item I give unto the said Anne Halls my daughter more one ffeatherbed in the parlour chamber with the bedstead curtaines and furniture there unto belonging Item I give and bequeath unto Mary my daughter the sum of fifty pounds of like money to be paid to her her executors or assignes at her age of one and twenty yeares or day of marriage which shall first happen and untill which said age or day of marriage of my said daughter Mary my will and mynde is that Robert Halls my sonne shall pay unto Mary my daughter yearly and every yeare fifty shillings at the ffeast of the annunciation of our Blessed Mary the Virgin and the ffeast of St Michaell the Archangell in every yeare by equall proportions until Mary my daughter attaine to her age of one and twenty yeares or day of marriage which shall first happen the first payment to begin the first of the said feast days which shall happen after my decease Item I give more to the said Mary my daughter twenty shillings of like money to be paid to her within a month after my decease to buy her clothes Item I likewise give to the said Mary my daughter my feather bed in the parlour and trundle bedstead with all the coverletts blanketts and furniture there unto belonging or appertaining
      And in case any of my daughters depart this life without issue of her body and unmarried before her and their legacies become due and payable to them then I will the said legacy or legacies of her or them so departing this life as aforesaid shall be paid and divided betweene my sonne Robert Halls and the survivor or survivors of them my said daughters as the same shall become due according to this my will Item I give unto Robert Steggold my grandchild the sume of five pounds of like money to be paid to him at his age of one and twenty yeares Item I give unto Mary Halls daughter of the said Samuel Halls my brother twenty shillings to be paid to her likewise all which payments of the said legacies and bequests sume and sumes of money I will shall be paid at or in the parrish church porch of Stowlangtoft aforesaid And whereas Margaret Downes of Stowlangtoft aforesaid spinster did by her last will and testament bearing date the eighth day of March in the year of our Lord God one thousand six hundred eighty and three give legacyes to Elizabeth Halls Theoda Steggold the wife of the said Robert Steggold and Anne Halls and Mary Halls my said daughters And made me the said Robert Halls the testator sole executrix of the same will now for the prevention of suits and Anons which may happen to arise and be commenced and brought by the said Elizabeth Halls my daughter Robert Steggold my sonne in law and Theoda his wife Anne Halls and Mary Halls my said daughters against Robert Halls my sonne and executor by reason of my right of executorship unto the said Margaret Downes my will and meaning is that they the said Elizabeth Halls Robert Steggold and Theoda his wife and Anne Halls and Mary Halls my daughters they and either and every of them and their executors and administrators shall upon the first payment of any sume or sumes of money or any other legacy or bequests which shall grow due to them or either or any of them by virtue of this my will and testament by their and either and every of their respective generall release or sufficient acquaintance under their and either and every of their respective hands and seales shall remise release acquit and discharge my sonne Robert Halls my executor and his heires executors and administrators of all bequests legacyes and sumes of money given to them or either or any of them in and by the said last will and testament of the said Margaret Downes and if any of my said daughters or their husbands or executors refuse to seale and give such release or acquittance to my said executor as aforesaid then I do declare my mynde and will to be immediately thereforth that my said bequests and gifts to Elizabeth Halls my daughter Robert Steggold and Theoda his wife Anne Halls and Mary Halls my daughters to them and either of them given by this my will (which refuse to give and seale such release and acquitance to cease and to be utterly voyde to all intents and purposes whatsoever) any former device or devices to my said daughters or Robert Steggold either or any of them notwithstanding All and singular my ready money debts due to me by specialty or otherwise plate household stuff and implements of household goods and chattles and personall estate whatsoever and wheresoever (not before disposed of) I wholly give and bequeath unto Robert Halls my said sonne for payment of my debts funerall expenses probate of this my will due payment of all legacyes and sumes of money herein bequeathed And I do hereby nominate ordayne and appoint the said Robert Halls my son sole executor of this my last will and testament strictly charging and commanding him (as he will expect a blessing from God upon what I have given him duely to performe the same) And I desire and appoint the said George Peacock and Samuel Halls my brother to be supervisors of this my last will and testament and to take care the same be performed on the part of my said sonne Robert and for their care and paynes herein I give unto them and either of them the severall sumes of ten shillings a peece In witness whereof and in acknowledgement of this my last will and testament contained in two sheets of paper I have to the first sheete subscribed my name and to last sheet put my hand and seale the day and yeare first above written
