1763 Records of Session
Compeared John Swan & Helen Penman both Indwellers in Tranent and produced a certificate of their marriage dated Canongate 15th July 1763 subscribed by Charles Smith. They were reproved for their irregular marriage, were exhorted and taken engaged to live together as marry'd persons. They paid the proclaimation dues and gave a shilling to the poor. Their marriage was ordered to be recorded in the Register of Marriages. The woman (Helen Penman) was ordered to procure a testimonial from the parish of Newbattle where she resided some time.
