265 | Arthur was in the Army in India. He was covered in tattoos which were done in India, one was a snake tattoo around his neck. He had birth marks on his legs which looked like fishes scales. After leaving the Army he lost his little finger, it was crushed by a horse against the rim of a barrel. He walked home with it in his pocket and kept it until it turned black in his waistcoat pocket. He got it out to show people. He had a scar on his head from the time when he worked at the docks, a crane bucket hit him on the head and he was nearly killed. The family were planning to go to Australia but then he had his accident so they couldn't go. Arthur used to get blind drunk all the time, all the policemen knew him and turned a blind eye to him. When he was drunk at work he couldn't drive the cart, so the horses used to take him home. Arthur sat by the fireplace, rolled a cigarette, then coughed for five minutes after a few puffs. He spat in the fire afterwards. Arthur wore a thick leather belt with a horse buckle, his trousers were high waisted and came above the belt. He kept pigeons. | Holland, Arthur John (I877)
